The Santa Ana City Council makes a major commitment to affordable housing

Santa Ana, CA -The Santa Ana City Council made a major commitment to affordable housing on November 15, 2022, by unanimously approving a $2.2 million investment in Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. This investment will allow Habitat to construct six brand new, affordable homes located at 1921 W. Washington Ave, providing low-income families with the opportunity to achieve homeownership and build intergenerational wealth.

The homes will have a unique “farmhouse-style” architecture, consisting of three duplex buildings, and each unit will feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and approximately 1,430 square feet of interior living space. These homes will be designed to accommodate families who earn up to 80% of the Orange County Area Median Income and will have a preference for those who live or work in Santa Ana. Additionally, each home will have its own private yard and an attached two-car garage, providing residents with ample space and privacy.

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is a well-respected nonprofit organization that has been providing affordable housing options for families in need for over 30 years. Since 1988, the Orange County affiliate has built and sold 231 homes, and their mission is to help families realize the dream of homeownership. With 30 completed homes and two more currently under construction in Santa Ana, Habitat has a proven track record of success in the community.

Habitat for Humanity acquired the property in December 2021, and the project is expected to be completed by December 2024. Habitat is thrilled to partner with the City of Santa Ana once again to help families in need and to continue their work in providing affordable housing options to those who need it the most. This new development will provide a much-needed boost to the community and help families build a brighter future.
